Finalists in the 22nd annual Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs) have been announced, with this year’s Best Talk Presenter (metropolitan) finalists including 2009 winner Derryn Hinch (3AW), three time winner Neil Mitchell (3AW) and multiple ACRA winner Ray Hadley (2GB). This year’s awards will be hosted by Australian comedy duo, Roy and HG.
In regional and country areas, Best Talk Presenter finalists are 8HA’s Adrian Renzi, 2RE’s Craig Huth and Anthony Zanos, 7AD’s Mandy Shepherd, 2CC’s Mike Welsh, and 92.7 Mix FM’s Caroline Hutchinson.
Triple M Melbourne’s Eddie McGuire is a finalist in the Best Current Affairs Presenter (metropolitan) category for the first time, and the hotly contested Best On-Air Team has seven of Australia’s on-air teams competing for the top honour of Best On-Air Team (metropolitan).
A record number of more than a 1000 entries were received from metropolitan, regional and country radio stations across Australia with the winners to be announced at a spring carnival themed ceremony at the Crown in Melbourne on October 16.
Well known for discovering new talent, the radio industry Best Newcomer On Air will be closely watched with former Hi5 star Charli Delaney (2Day FM) up against, singer and breakfast presenter Ricki-Lee Coulter (Nova 969), Gus Worland (Triple M), Kate MacPherson (Nova 937),and Adam Papalia (6PR).
A new category this year, Best New Digital Radio Format, recognises the innovation and development of digital radio in Australia. On air for nearly 12 months, there have been up to 18 new digital only stations added in each digital radio market. The finalists are; Koffee (DMG), NovaNation (DMG), Sky Sports Radio 2 (Sky Sports Radio), The Edge Digital (ARN), Classic Hits Plus (ARN), Choose the Hits Jelli (Austereo) and Radar (Austereo).
Organised by Commercial Radio Australia, on behalf of the radio industry, the national Awards include 33 categories, which cover all areas of radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment. The ACRAs differ from television’s Logie Awards, in that they are peer judged with judging panels comprised of industry members. Winners are announced in each category across three areas: metropolitan, provincial and country commercial radio stations.
